[News] Facebook revising its terms of use back to the old version

Understanding Facebook's terms of use:

After raising so many voices, Facebook decided to revise its terms of use back to the previous version. In my view, Facebook was trying to find a new way to create value for its compeny i.e. increase profit but failed. Facebook is making a free social network, and the major source of revenue is from advertising. It is hard to survive in the long run if it is not the top online advertising agent.

Facebook's response was very fast regarding to this issue. I hope facebook can find a way to balance its source of revenue and keeping its users happy with the actions.

Blog or Job? Vancouver Bus Driver Fired over Blog

Yesterday, Vancouver bus driver Michael Cox got fired for publishing a blog that describes his day-to-day experiences on the job. Now he has no blog and no job.
“The company recently became aware of your Internet blog entitled ‘Short Turns,’ ” Coast Mountain wrote Cox.
“Some of the information was offensive and negative about or towards the corporation.”
An one single post could not harm the business but the reaction of Translink.
There are advantages that Translink can harness employees' blog for PR purpose. However, how Translink handle the situation was quite bad. When an employee gets into the company, did Translink clearly state the E-policy to him? As an employee, you better know what you can (can't) post online. In addition, employers should give a second chance to employees who violated the E-policy.
In this situation, if they communicate with Michael Cox of what is expecting to be done, it could be used as a viral marketing to attract people joining Translink.

[Useful Website]10 Minute Mail

Are you tired of getting junk mails?
I found an interesting website that offers a tempory email to users. Basically you can use it when you want to sign up for a site which requires that you provide an e-mail address to send a validation email to. And maybe you don't want to give up your real e-mail address and end up on a bunch of spam lists.

[Competition]L'Oréal EStrat9 Competition

I am currently participating to this L'Oréal competition which is against over 10,000 teams from over 200 counties.
http://www.estrat.loreal.com/_int/_en/whatis.aspx
The international final will be on April 16th, Paris. Top 2 from each of the 8 geographical zones will get a free trip to go to Paris and make a presentation.

This competition is a simulation based which involves traditional distribution channel as well as e-channel.

If you are interested in competiting around the world, here is an opportunity!

P.S. The simulation was created by the same company as Markstrat so you will find it is similar to it in some ways.
